The Air France Airbus I believe made a terrible mistake in landing in a thunderstorm. The pilot in command must make a split second decision to either land or engage power and come out of there if there is any risk. In this case they obviously could not see the entire runway and landed too late in heavy rain with water hampering their breaking ability.
